MORE INFORMATION
Alvin Ailey should need no introduction to anyone in the dance world, perhaps even the arts world as a whole. His name is synonymous with dance, choreography, and trendsetting leadership that continues to inspire to this day.
From humble beginnings in Texas, the documentary follows Alvin Ailey’s career which eventually led him to New York.
His school for dance, the tours, and the ups and downs of a legendary artist are all documented here.
With the issues of today front and center after the tragedy of last year’s murder of George Floyd, films like “Ailey” remind us that there were leaders fighting this fight decades ago. It is also a reminder that while we’ve made strides toward better representation, acceptance, and equality, we still have an extremely long way to go.
