It’s pretty rare when a romantic comedy is sent my way for review. I wish more would be sent actually. The new film from Lionsgate, “The Right One”, tells the tale of Sara, a novelist who is facing writer’s block. She happens upon Godfrey - a seemingly free spirited character who portrays himself as different people. Fascinated by all of this, Sara befriends him and eventually grows attached to him. Meanwhile, Godfrey finds out he is the subject of Sara’s new novel and the trust is broken. Or so it seems.

The tone of “The Right One” is straight out of the 80’s. It is lighthearted and tugs at the heartstrings at the appropriate moments. The backstory of Godfrey and why he does what he does was a nice change of pace and for the most part worked. While the film won’t set the world on fire, it will entertain, and that’s the most important thing.

If you’re in the mood for a rom-com that isn’t too serious, “The Right One’ will fit the bill nicely for an enjoyable evening at home.
