The new film, “The Runner” follows troubled teen Aiden as he deals drugs, uses drugs, and tries to live a music video lifestyle. He gets turned in by a family member to the authorities who offer him a deal in exchange to help them bring down a big fish drug kingpin.

“The Runner” isn’t going to win any awards for originality but it is an interesting film. I think the fact that the lead character is a teenager makes for some compelling scenarios that were never fully developed.

We all know drug dealers exist at the high school level. It would have been more fascinating to delve deeper into that world than the one on the streets.

Cliches start to abound in the second act of the film and at that point “The Runner” starts reminding the viewer of too many other films with similar storylines.

Overall, “The Runner” was an interesting film but also a missed opportunity.
