MANEATER in theaters and on Demand and Digital August 26, 2022.

(Saban Films)

The new film, “Maneater” is a new shark film from Saban Films. The plot is simple revolving around a group on vacation that become the target of a shark - a great white shark in an environment they normally aren’t found in.

A local fisherman/shark hunter (played by Trace Adkins) has personal reasons for killing the shark and that is the basic plot of the film.

The characters are forgettable other than the shark hunter Harlan Burke as Trace Adkins has presence on screen and is the only believable character.  The others are pretty faces that are interchangeable.

With any shark film the shark is the center of attention. The CGI at times is good and other times really bad. The shark is also made to look more menacing (i.e. unrealistic) with odd markings on its skin and other non great white shark attributes. If the filmmakers had kept the shark looking as realistic as possible, the film would have benefited greatly.

Overall, “Maneater” is another shark film that misses the mark.
