The new film, “Devil Put The Coal In The Ground” is an interesting documentary centering on coal mining in the state of West Virginia. It explores the after effects of the coal industry on the state and its people.

For the uninitiated, coal mining has long been the cause of death for thousands of Americans for those that worked in the mines and for those that lived in the towns (contamination of water sources and other issues).

The documentary interviews many people to give a very broad overview of the situation and the problems they are still fighting to this day. The narrative from the creatives who made the film is solid and that is incredibly important in storytelling, particularly with the documentary genre.

“Devil Put The Coal In The Ground” is an above average documentary about a very sad, but worthwhile, topic. It’s worth seeking out.
