The new film, “Clear Cut” is a modern day action thriller set in the Pacific Northwest forests. Normally, I am a sucker for the “man on the run from the bad guys” genre of action films and “Clear Cut” does deliver on the action aspect.

However, the storyline is confusing at best, ridiculous at worst.

It’s really too bad as the action sequences are really engaging and top notch. Fortunately, there are a lot of action scenes in this compact action thriller to make up for the plot that could have been so much better.

Kudos to lead actor Clive Standen for putting on a very believable performance as Jack. His acting along with the action scenes are what sell “Clear Cut”. Alec Baldwin makes an appearance but that’s about it.

The flashbacks to Jack’s family life were a sore spot for me. Yes, I understand the need to explain what happened prior to the modern day tale but any time the film cut to those flashback scenes, the film just got bogged down and that just confused the plot.

Overall, “Clear Cut” is a decent viewing for the action scenes but if you’re looking for a solid story to match, you won’t find it, unfortunately.

Best,
