The Village Theatre in Everett had just opened this run of Sense and Sensibility. A play (not a musical), the Jane Austen book-club types abounded in the audience as the show was ready to make its third Everett performance on Saturday evening.

Act I was a bit confusing to this reviewer. The cast played multiple characters and if you’re not familiar with the source material (like me) then it took awhile to figure out who was related to who and such.

I did however recognize a good number of the cast which was stellar. More on that in a moment.

Act II was a noted improvement in all areas and the gossipy “modern” take on things was refreshing to me, but possibly not to the old guard purists. I enjoyed the humor and the light hearted aspect that these scenes brought to the stage.

What really made this show work was the cast. Richard Nguyen Sloniker whom I’ve seen in several shows around town never fails to disappoint. He always brings a high level of professionalism and ability to any role he tackles. Calder Schilling was also as good as it gets. I first met him in 2018 and he is always a joy to watch on stage. Ditto Shanna Allman who I also have interviewed twice over the years. Her improv background mixed with her acting ability is something to behold.

Sunam Ellis really stood out when she played the role of Anne Steele as her physical comedy brought many laughs from the audience. Sophia Franzella was also remarkable and an actor I had seen last year and loved.

Lindsay Welliver was amazing as Elinor. She elevated those around her on stage and she was just spot on perfect as one of the lead characters.

Overall, “Sense and Sensibility” was an enjoyable show that a wide audience will appreciate.

“Sense And Sensibility” runs through April 9th. Limited tickets are available:  HERE!
