Review: Tuesday March 7, 2023
I missed this Tony Award winning musical when it made its way here in 2019. I had heard so much about it that I tried to not let that influence my experience on Tuesday evening.
I didn’t need to worry as it turns out.
“Dear Evan Hansen” so richly deserves all of the praise it has received - both from the industry and from patrons.
The story is relatable to pretty much anyone in the theatre. At some point in life, we’ve all felt invisible, unwanted, and can’t find a way to break the cycle. The story also deals with an extremely serious topic and, in this case, the ramifications of it.
I couldn’t help but be drawn into the story almost immediately. The story along with the incredible music is just emotionally overpowering in the best possible way.
Speaking of the songs, I can’t remember the last time I heard such perfect music to accompany a story. I understand the credentials behind the songwriting team but still - the songs in “Dear Evan Hansen” are just on another level.
The cast was as strong as could be with no one holding back the production. They all shined in their respective roles.
“Dear Evan Hansen” will have you leaving the theatre with an undeniable feeling of satisfaction.
Highly recommended!
“Dear Evan Hansen” runs through Sunday March 12th. Tickets are available: TICKETS HERE!
