(Edmonds Driftwood Players)

It was nearly one year ago when I first saw The Spitfire Grill at a local Seattle theatre. Having never seen the film, having seen a production of this musical play made a difference when seeing the Edmonds Driftwood Players current production.

The story of Percy Talbott is a relatable one in terms of a small town setting, second chances, and carrying luggage from one's past into the future.

There are two actors for every role in his particular production. So, if you have a friend or family member in the cast, be sure to ask them which shows they’re performing in.

Annelise Harlan as Shelby Thorpe was an absolute standout. Her voice and her acting drew my attention any time she was in a scene. A tremendous talent!

Rachel Ruby Squires as Percy Talbott really made the role believable. She has a knack for carrying the acting portion while singing her characters songs (for example when she was singing, “Out Of The Frying Pan”).

When these two fine performers had a scene and/or a song together, they really made the show work.

The rest of the cast was either good or in a few cases in need of some more experience on stage. None were distracting to the point of affecting the show, however.

Overall, the show is a strong reminder of doing things the right way, standing up for yourself, and taking pleasure in the simple things in life.

The Spitfire Grill runs through April 8th.  Tickets available:  HERE!
