The new film, “Unseen” is a refreshing new thriller from director Yoko Okumura. The use of modern technology to keep the viewer engaged is just one of many aspects that make this film work.

With the source material (I don’t go over plot points) being what it is, this film easily could have been a “straight to video” type of movie. Instead, we get a smart, well written and acted thriller that also has subtexts of toxic relationships (to put it mildly), insecurities, female empowerment, and ethnic issues as well if you look hard enough.

Another aspect of the film I liked is the run time. I’m so tired of films that are long just for the sake of being long (or an editor/filmmaker that doesn’t know when to stop). “Unseen” is straight, to the point, the story is told, and then it’s over. Perfect storytelling in my book.

“Unseen” needs to be seen by a large audience. We need more films like this!

Recommended!
