Exclusively in US cinemas on June 28th from Oscilloscope Laboratories.
The new film, “The Vourdalak” is presented as an 18th century vampyric tale from a novella that predates Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”.
The film starts off a bit quirky as the main character (Marquis d’Urfe’) is injured and stumbles upon a home in a secluded part of the forest, all is already not what it seems. Upon the arrival of the family’s father, Gotcha, things go from bad to worse.
“The Vourdalak” is a film that is interesting in the first act but definitely falls apart in the second (or even third act). It is delivered like a serious film but I couldn’t help but laugh at certain scenes (and characters) - whether this was intentional or not, remains to be seen.
It doesn’t really accomplish much in the way of being a horror film. Or at least a good one. It’s by no means terrible but it just felt like a wasted opportunity once the credits rolled. It could have been so much more.
Best,
