The new film “The Fabulous Filipino Brothers” is a new slice of life film from director Dante Basco. The film follows four brothers and their individual stories and how they collectively come together at a wedding.
There are definitely laugh out loud moments in the film. And it goes without saying that it is a step in the right direction seeing a Filipino American cast and film crew. There are so many stories to be told and it’s great that we’re slowly starting to see more and more of these on the big (and digital) screen.
The film started to lag in the middle a bit. Perhaps it’s the lack of experience from the film crew or perhaps it was just me, but I wanted to dig into the narrative much more than it allowed me to. There was a golden opportunity to really dig down deep and show an extra layer of cultural richness to the characters that just didn’t happen for me.
Overall, “The Fabulous Filipino Brothers” was clearly a labor of love. It is a solid film and with a few more features under his/their belts, I think we’ll see a future release that is a bonafide homerun.
