I was one of the lucky ones back in 1985 as I saw “Re-Animator” on the big screen. The old Crossroads Theater was on its way to being torn down and rebuilt in a new location. They were showing double features and a ton of genre films before they closed the old location for good.

I remember being shocked by certain scenes in the film. I found it relentless at times but it also had a strong sense of humor that combined it really turned the film into the classic it eventually became many years later.

And here we are in 2025 and courtesy of Ignite Films, we have brand new editions for the horror collectors out there. I reviewed the standard blu ray release so I can’t comment on the 4K editions.

The film looks about as good as it ever has considering its age. I know the hard core fan may scoff at yet another edition of this film but Ignite Films did everything they could to give the fans a reason to purchase one of these editions.

(The late David Gale as Dr. Carl Hill in "Re-Animator")

I’m assuming you have seen the filmalready  so I won’t go into any of the details. It’s a classic horror film. Period.

The extras, both new and vintage, are extensive. I would have preferred to have heard more from Barbara Crampton and Jeffrey Combs in the new Q/A over the producer as he didn’t let them talk for nearly half of the session. Once he quieted down the session got infinitely better in my opinion. Share the air. It perhaps would have been better to edit together separate interviews from each cast/crew member instead of hoping for the banter of three people in one room. Just a minor quibble.

The meat and potatoes of these releases is the film itself and it's worth seeking out one (or more) of these editions to add to your horror collection.
