The 2022/2023 Seattle Opera McCaw Hall stage productions came to an end with Verdi’s “La Traviata”. The crowd on opening night was definitely more spiffed up in their attire to end the season with a fashionable bang.
The first thing that comes to mind with this opera production was most definitely the music. This had to have been one of the most beautiful operas I had heard since I started covering the shows back in 2019. Each piece and movement was so rich with emotion and musical exploration that it absolutely stood out. My plus one also noticed the exact same thing. Beautiful, beautiful music.
The performances from the cast were strong. Vuvu Mpofut as Violetta was a standout in the lead role. I’d say after the first ten minutes, she was in full command of her voice and her character and never strayed for the duration of the performance. Dominick Chenes as Alfredo Germont took a bit longer to find himself in his role but once he did, he soared.
The orchestra under Carlo Montanaro was on point all through the performance. The maestro had the orchestra playing at such a high level, it only added to the magnificence of the production.
The set design also stood out. I also loved the lighting design during the ensemble numbers.
“La Traviata” was one of those productions where everything just worked! Do yourself a favor and go to a performance before it ends on the 21st. Purchase tickets: HERE!
