The Fifth Avenue Theatre kicked off its 2025/2026 season with the first national tour of theTony Award winning hit show, “Suffs”. With Seattle being the first stop on the national tour, there was an extra bit of anticipation regarding opening night on Friday.

Whether you know the history of the movement or not, the show will inform and entertain you at the same time.

Featuring an all femme identifying cast for all of the roles, the show really hits on some historic themes and also makes mention of some other aspects which I was glad to see.

I have to say that the cast was absolutely stellar. Each of their unique voices came across as handpicked for this first national tour. I’ve seen many strong casts before from national shows but this one was exceptional. In particular Maya Keleher (as Alice Paul) could really do no wrong in the role. Her voice was spectacular and her acting was top notch. She led a cast that was really a show of strength to strength, which worked well considering the subject matter of the show.

The songs are indeed Tony Award winning as I found them as strong as the casting, really. It was such a winning combination of songs and cast that the story just overwhelmed me in the best possible way.

I must mention that I was waiting for Act II to at least mention some historical elements during the show. I was glad to see them not gloss over the facts that there was still work to be done for all women.

Overall, the first national tour of “Suffs” was an absolute triumph and everyone should do themselves a favor and attend a performance.

Recommended.
