Much like the last show of last season, I have never seen any version of “Little Shop Of Horrors”. I went into Sunday’s performance with very little information ahead of time.

The biggest kudos would be to the set design team. The set looked incredible. I loved the dimension they achieved with the slum city and the interchangeable parts (like the flower shop) were done with a pro touch.

A very close second would be the puppetry and animatronics to bring Audrey II to life. I definitely get the feeling that those that were familiar with the story were chomping at the bit to see how the show would pull off the different versions of Audrey II. The bigger she got, the more impressive the animatronics became. Great stuff!

The cast worked well together. The singing, dancing, and acting were all on point. There were no weak links in the cast. It was nice to see Nick Watson on stage again portraying several roles. It was reminiscent of the first time I saw Nick in 2018 in “Baskerville” at the Taproot Theatre.

Overall, I enjoyed the macabre aspects of the story as they blended well with the romance between Seymour and Audrey. The slap by Orin to Audrey could have been left out in my opinion. The audience knows he’s a scumbag. It was already set up well. I know every production has to wrestle with these issues of taking an older source material and updating it for the present. It’s a fine line to walk for sure and never an easy process. It just struck me as something that could have been left out. That’s all.

The show is thoroughly entertaining and it makes for a great introductory show if someone hasn’t been to a Village Theatre production.

“Little Shop Of Horrors” runs through November 20th. Limited tickets are available here:  TICKETS!
