It was exactly seven years ago on October 2, 2019 when I first saw Al Di Meola live. Just the fact that it was the same day and month when I would see him again was a spooky coincidence.

The early show fans came out of Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley all either saying how much we late show people are going to like his performance or gesturing in the same positive manner. And all of them were right.

Al was promoting his Guitarchitect Acoustic Tour with two amazing musicians from Spain - Isaac Ramagoza on guitar and Sergio Martinez on drums and percussion.

Seated in the middle of the stage, Al and his trio didn’t muck up the evening with excess chitter chatter. Instead they went song to song with a few thank you comments in between but even those were used sparingly.

Any guitarist knows just how good Al has been over his 50 plus year career. Last night was no exception. He blended flamenco with jazz with fusion and a healthy dose of world music atmosphere in each and every piece. His chops were in fine form and he just showed why he’s been revered as one of the top guitarists and musicians in the world for decades.

The fans were enjoying the setlist as I observed many in attendance bobbing their heads, whispering to their neighbor about certain aspects of the songs, and also intently watching Al’s technique (I was one of them being a guitarist myself). He and his band were inspiring to watch perform last night.

You have three more chances to witness greatness. Two are tonight Saturday 10/3 at 7:30pm and 9:30pm. The last option is Sunday 10/4 at 7:30pm.

If you can, go for the whole dinner reservation option. And save room for the house made key lime pie (my personal favorite). With Al’s music at the forefront, you have the recipe for a perfect evening in Seattle.
