The mighty Castle Rat stormed into Seattle on October 7th to play the long sold out Showbox (at the Market). This was one of the most anticipated metal shows of the season and the line outside the venue spoke to that very thing.
The world that Castle Rat has created is clearly connecting with fans all over the world. The fantasy fan, the doom metal fan, the theatre fan even; fans of all types were waiting anxiously for The Rat Queen, The Count, The Plague Doctor, and the All-Seeing Druid to tell the story of the Castle Rat and the Realm.
The band sounded fantastic as the visuals kept the storyline moving along throughout the show. With additional characters, with of course the Rat Reaperess making its presence known, the fans just ate up every minute of the concert.
The mix of visuals and the booming doom metal influenced sound really worked so well together. The storyline is limitless, really. The band can keep adding new storylines, new chapters (albums), new characters, and continue to explore the world that they’ve created. I’m looking forward to seeing just how large this world gets in the coming years.
Castle Rat are clearly on their way up. Depending on when they return to Seattle, they’ll be at one of the larger theatres here (the Paramount is my guess since it has a GA floor).

The show was opened up by Wraith Knight. A thirty minute set of dungeon synth was the order of the night. Atmospheric and tone setting, the set was a good way to start the evening.
Next up was Unto Others who clearly had fans in attendance for the gig. They played a high energy set of their gothic influenced metal. The band got the energy up which was a perfect setup for the headlining set from Castle Rat.
