I had heard a lot about Come From Away over the years - and all of it was positive. I had never seen any of the productions (or tv) of the show so I was going in pretty fresh on Thursday night.
There are many that have seen the show several times. The staff inside the Seattle Rep mentioned a patron had seen it over 80 (?!) times. That’s not a typo. While I don’t know if I would ever see anything 80 times, the show was indeed incredible.
As always I prefer for the reader to go into the show as fresh as possible so plot points are minimal at best in my reviews.
What I will say is that the frantic energy of 9/11 is superbly captured throughout the production. The pacing of the show really never lets up until the last twenty minutes. It was amazing to watch the cast seamlessly hit their marks while saying/singing their lines without running into one another.
The music was almost perfect and the cast performed it exceptionally well. There were no weak links in this cast. And many performed multiple roles which made the show even more jaw droppingly great.
Come From Away is celebrating its 10th anniversary - right back at the Seattle Rep where it started. Again, since I haven’t seen any other iteration, I can’t speak to any changes that were made to the show. All I know is the show was a knockout punch to the glory of musical theatre.
Highly recommended!
“Come From Away” runs through January 4th. Tickets are available: HERE!
