ACT CONTEMPORARY THEATRE - UNION ARTS CENTER - "A Christmas Carol" - November 28 through December 28th, 2025 Review
A CHRISTMAS CAROL
Written by Charles Dickens
Adapted by Gregory Falls
Music by Adam Stern
Directed by Shermona Mitchell
ACT Contemporary Theatre at the Union Arts Center
Seattle, WA
November 29, 2025 Matinee Preview Performance
“A Christmas Carol” has been performed at the ACT Contemporary Theatre for 50 years! What an incredible accomplishment but not necessarily a surprising one. The show never ceases to impress each year and this year is absolutely no exception.
The cast, the staging, the wardrobe, the lighting design, the special effects, etc. - all of it is top notch. Each year is a bit different from the others but the foundational parts of the show never really change. The production is as solid as it could be and it more importantly captures the spirit of the season and the original source material.
I could make mention of certain cast members that stood out but in reality the entire cast stood out. From the ensemble players to the young actors to the seasoned veterans, they transported the audience back to yesteryear on that fateful Christmas Eve.
I will say that longtime favorite actor Reginald Andre’ Jackson brings a fiercer quality to the role of Ebenezer Scrooge than in the other iterations I’ve reviewed. It made for more of a drastic turn when Scrooge finally sees the light of Christmas Day.
The ninety minute show (with no intermission) goes by quickly - it’s perfectly paced this year and it feels like there is no filler in the production. It is a joy to watch and comes with my highest recommendation.
Happy 50th Anniversary to “A Christmas Carol” at the ACT Contemporary Theatre - Union Arts Center.
