LEWIS & TOLKIEN Taproot Theatre Company January 22 - March 8, 2025 Review
LEWIS & TOLKIEN

Directed by: Karen Lund
Taproot Theatre Company
Seattle, WA
Review: Friday 1/31/25 - 7:30pm Performance
The first production of 2025 at Taproot Theatre Company is a fine play called “Lewis & Tolkien”. For the uninitiated the title refers to the two legendary authors C.S. Lewis (of Narnia fame) and J.R.R. Tolkien (of Lord Of The Rings fame).
The fictional story takes place at The Eagle and Child Pub in England during 1963. Many years have passed since the two friends spent any time together. Where they used to hang out with their fellow friends in a group known as the Inklings, time has created issues between the two that take deep conversation to resolve.
The acting in the show was superb. Jeff Allen Pierce (J.R.R. Tolkien), Peter Cook (C.S. Lewis), and Chloe Michele (Veronica) delivered on so many levels on Saturday evening. The sheer amount of dialogue coupled with the emotional rollercoaster was a sight to behold. They transformed the Isaac Studio into a cozy pub where the audience was sitting at another table eavesdropping on their conversations.
The story also delved into issues between friends that are all too commonplace, especially now in the current state of the world. Assumptions, vulnerability, digging one's heels in on a topic, etc. We’ve all experienced those issues.
“Lewis & Tolkien” is a wonderful start to the new season at Taproot Theatre. Make sure you catch a performance before it’s too late.
Recommended.
”Lewis & Tolkien” is playing through March 8th. Tickets are available: HERE!
