The musical theatre juggernaut that is Hamilton stormed into Seattle on Tuesday for a month-long engagement (this review is of Wednesday’s performance). The groundbreaking musical had the patrons at The Paramount Theatre more than ready for the tale of the founding fathers.

So much has been written about the show over the years that if you haven’t heard about it, I would be quite puzzled by that statement. And, as always, I tend to not go over every plot detail and would rather the reader experience the show for themselves.

Here’s what I can say - I first reviewed it in 2022. The show made its first tour appearance in Seattle in 2018. So coming from that angle, many of the observations I made from 2022 were just as present in 2025 last night.

The show is overwhelming and that’s one of the traits I love about it. There’s always more to uncover and discover about Hamilton. From the story to the songs and raps to pretty much everything about the production, it is just incredibly layered to the point where it overwhelms the senses.

The pacing rarely lets up and when it does it's for good reason. Then it will kick back into another gear and off it goes. It’s truly an amazing thing to experience.

I’m not going to compare and contrast the original cast to the various touring casts. What I am going to say is that the cast last night was spectacular as a group.

Blaine Alden Krauss as Alexander Hamilton commanded the stage. His acting, his voice, his raps, everything worked. He embodied the real life character with the ease of a seasoned veteran. Deon’te Goodman as Aaron Burr held his own in his many scenes with Hamilton. His voice had nuance and emotion which just added to his acting abilities. Kendal Sayuri Yokoyama as Eliza Hamilton also had a beautiful voice and I looked forward to every number she got to sing in the show. Jisel Soleil Ayon as Angelica Schuyler was also a standout in the cast. Her voice was arguably the best of the night. She caught my eyes and ears immediately and she was a joy to watch. Paul Louis Lessard as King George III got all the laughs which means he did his job and did it spectacularly well. There was a technical issue with his lav mic in the second act but, hey, it’s live theatre. Simon Longnight as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson did an amazing job performing both roles. His Jefferson was particularly well done and very well received by the appreciative audience.

I could go on and on about the cast. But, I definitely want to mention just how strong the ensemble was last night. When an ensemble needs more rehearsal/work, it really shows and it brings the show down. The ensemble last night performed like a well oiled machine. They were tight, spot on, and filled in that foundational piece that a show like Hamilton requires. They were magnificent.

The show still zips by even though it runs well over 2 hours at every performance. This to me is a perfect sign of just how engaging Hamilton is. The audience was loud last night, they cheered in the right places, they were pindrop quiet in others. This Seattle audience was there for a reason - to enjoy one heck of a musical theatre experience.

The show is here through early March. Many performances are sold out already. Do not hesitate to buy your tickets to a performance. Hamilton is a show you need to experience at least once in your life.

Highly recommended!
