The new film “Seance” made its world premiere on Friday the 18th of October. It is the second feature film for writer-director Vivian Kerr.
The story focuses on four characters - Emma Strand (played by Scottie Thompson), her second husband Albert (played by Connor Paolo), her first husband George (played by Jilon VanOver), and George’s wife Lillian (played by Vivian Kerr).
I had a hard time connecting with this film. The storyline was not hard to follow but it didn’t offer much in the way of emotional weight that would make the audience care about the characters in my opinion. That’s a death sentence for any film.
I was also surprised by the quality of the acting. The four main actors involved have resumes that would speak to a higher standard of performance than what was presented in the film. I’m not sure why this happened but it was noticeable.
At the end of the day, “Seance” was a hard watch to get through which was disappointing based on the talent involved. Perhaps you’ll feel different after you’ve viewed the film.
