The heavy metal juggernaut that is Judas Priest roared into the Angel Of The Winds Arena on Wednesday evening with much anticipation. Touring in support of their fantastic new album, “Invincible Shield”, the metal faithful were anxious for the band to take the stage.

After the intro music played, the band were centered around Scott Travis’ drum riser as they launched into, “Panic Attack” from the new album. They then dispersed across the stage to their usual positions with The Metal God, Rob Halford, front and center.

The Metal God - Rob Halford - was singing and screaming his ass off. He is a legend and rightfully so in the metal community. He really deserves to be acknowledged as a legend in the music industry, period.

Kudos to Andy Sneap as he continues to add that much needed strong second guitar to the lineup. He has been taking more and more leads during the live shows and it’s really a joy to feel the guitar tandem working so well together. When he first joined the touring lineup in 2018, he was doing his best to keep up with the material. Now, he plays the material with great confidence and it absolutely shows.

The Falcon is The Falcon. He continues to anchor the guitar sound in the band and his influence cannot be understated ever since he joined. He was in fine form last night.

Ian and Scott have made up the thundering rhythm section since 1990. Over thirty years of laying the foundation for the band that is so strong that it's easy to forget just how good they are at their instruments.

The setlist ran the gamut from the 70’s material up to the present day. It must be an impossible task to come up with a setlist that everyone is happy with, considering they have over 50 years of tracks to choose from. But, last night, there was something for everyone in the audience.

And of course there were encores. “The Hellion” and “Electric Eye” started things off. No Priest show is complete without the Harley Davidson rolling out on the stage before they launch into “Hell Bent For Leather”.

The show ended with “Living After Midnight”. The band took their bows, waved to the audience, threw picks and drumsticks into the audience, and then triumphantly walked off the stage.

The video screen on stage said The Priest Will Be Back. Let’s hope that’s a true statement as they continue to fly the flag of heavy metal for fans all over the world.

The show was opened by Swedish metal maniacs Sabaton. With a strong following of their own, the band launched into a 50 minute set (or so) of material from across their catalog. There were clearly many fans in attendance that were Sabaton fans. I saw the band back in 2015 and they put on a high energy show, filled with self deprecating humor, and a sound that was extremely professional.

Wednesday night was no different. Many times fans were jumping up and down to certain songs, chanting the lyrics, and having a great time. The audience reaction to the band was strong and Sabaton made many new fans last night in Everett, WA.
