The new season for the Edmonds Driftwood Players kicked off officially on September 13th with their production of, “Murder Inn”. I attended the final dress rehearsal the night before the official opening.

I’ve only been reviewing shows at the Wade James Theatre since late 2018 (and I haven’t been able to cover all the shows in that time). I’ve come to expect a certain level of quality when I attend their performances which overall I’ve enjoyed over the years.

The performances on Thursday evening were definitely solid and in some cases great. I’ve seen at least half of the cast in other productions around town. Ingrid Sanai Buron (Agnes), David Hayes (Lawrence), Thomas A. Glass (Donald), and Landon Whitbread (Todd) were just some of the standouts in the show.

I liked the staging of the production and the overall look worked very well as The Barnsley Inn in New England circa 2000.

My struggle with the show was the source material. I thought the story meandered as it went along and I just wasn’t invested in any of the characters. The humor other than a few moments fell flat with me (there were some laughs in the audience, though). I so wanted to get caught up in the story and who would be the next victim but it just didn’t happen for me.

Overall, “Murder Inn” was unfortunately a disappointment. Perhaps you’ll feel different after you’ve seen a performance.

“Murder Inn” runs through October 6th. Tickets are available:  HERE!
