Review: 7:30pm Performance on June 28, 2026
The final show in the 2025/2026 season arrived in Everett one day before my performance. A parody musical of jukebox musicals, I was looking forward to this production.
I could appreciate the creativity put into this show. Parodies are going to land with some audiences and miss the mark with others. Unfortunately, I fell into the latter camp.
I just didn’t find it that funny. There have been other shows where the audience is clearly having a great time as they are laughing out loud at the antics on stage (even if I’m not). But, besides the patron directly behind me and a scattering of others throughout the auditorium, I wasn’t alone this time. The one exception was the Kentucky Derby scene with the horse names. I even found that hilarious. I wish there had been more moments like that in the show.
Don’t get me wrong, though. I did laugh at certain other moments in the show but overall it was just not doing it for me. It reminded me a bit of seeing Tenacious D in concert or something similar. Again, parodies and spoofs work on a certain level for some audiences. I enjoyed a few films over the years that parodied popular movies of the time - but not all of them worked for me.
One of the bright spots was the singing and performing by both Gregg Hammer and Louis Pardo. Their harmonizing was a strength as were their ability to keep the musical moving at a very quick pace while portraying multiple characters. There was no denying their talent on that front.
