JAKE SHIMABUKURO Dimitriou's Jazz Alley March 6 through March 9th, 2025 (2 performances on Friday and Saturday) Review
JAKE SHIMABUKURO
with Jackson Waldhoff
Dimitriou's Jazz Alley
Seattle, WA
Thursday - March 6, 2025
Jake Shimabukuro returned to Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley in Seattle, WA last night. The first date of a four date residency (Thursday 3/6 through Sunday 3/9 - with two performances on Friday and Saturday night), the crowd was more than ready for the first of six performances.
Jake started the evening with two solo performances before welcoming longtime bassist Jackson Waldhoff up to the stage. The duo have been performing for six years together and I’ve been privileged to see them multiple times during that time span.
The setlist was great for longtime fans as Jake aired a few songs that haven’t been played in a long time. For the first timer, I honestly don’t know what they would have thought about the set. I’m guessing they wouldn’t really notice any differences as there would be nothing to compare it to. Also, the energy that Jake brings to his performances always makes up for any omissions in the setlist.
It never ceases to amaze me just how talented Jake is. Again, I’ve seen him perform since 2014 and I’m always left in awe of his ability. Jackson is definitely more confident than he’s ever been on stage. I remember the first few shows I saw, he played well, but was so quiet that it became a joke on stage that Jackson wouldn’t say anything to the crowd. That’s not the case nowadays which I love to see. The two of them together are a great duo and it always shows live on stage.
I’m glad to see Jake back at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley (he performed there last year on a Tues/Wed). It’s one of the classiest venues in the entire area for live music. They are a local treasure and I look forward to seeing Jake back at the venue hopefully for years to come.
Always recommended - both Jake Shimabukuro and Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley.
