Review: 8pm Final Dress Rehearsal Performance on March 13, 2025.
The new musical at the Edmonds Driftwood Players is the crowd favorite, “Clue The Musical” based on the popular board game. It was also a fun movie from the 1980’s (with three different endings depending on what theater screening you were at). I have only seen the play version of “Clue” that came to town recently - which I enjoyed.
Going into the show, it helps knowing that this is a board game come to life, basically. The sound effect of rolling dice occurs to enhance this idea several times during the show. Royce Napolitano as Mr. Boddy is both the MC and the victim of the show. He does an excellent job setting up the scenes and involving the audience. His singing voice was a notch above as well. He kept the musical on track and was perfectly cast.
The “suspects” were all wonderful on stage. They played up each of their characters' motives to the highest degree but always with a sense of fun which was clearly evident throughout the show.
The wardrobe/costume design by Breanne Pancarik worked exceptionally well. Each character was distinctly themselves without being over the top in their appearance. The production and properties designers really enhanced the story with their visuals on the stage that were impressive from beginning to end.
It’s always nice to hear a live pit orchestra with any musical (VS a tape) and the musicians did a fine job performing all of the songs without missing a beat.
Overall, “Clue The Musical” was a fun event that involved the audience which only added to the overall value of the production.
Recommended!
“Clue The Musical” runs through April 6th. The entire run is sold out. Please contact the theatre to get on the waitlist for any possible tickets that may become available.
