The new film, “Ride” is a modern day country western film. The movie is centered around a family with strained relationships who are trying to just make it through this world.
The absolute best part of the film is the acting from C. Thomas Howell. His character is thankfully the lead and therefore he is in nearly every scene. All of his acting chops are on display and the audience really feels every emotion that he’s going through.
An appearance from Forrie J. Smith (Lloyd on “Yellowstone”) adds authenticity to the proceedings but his role is small.
One of the other actors really shows how he doesn’t fit the role skill wise. As the movie progresses his acting just slows down and distracts from the good parts of the film. It really is unfortunate but it can’t be overlooked.
The pacing of the film is very day to day which for the most part works for the movie. I would have rather have seen the last act pick up the pace and things unfold but it wasn’t a huge issue.
Overall, “Ride” is a good viewing but with a few flaws.
