OPENING IN THEATERS AND VOD AUGUST 2ND
The new film, “Doctor Jekyll” is a return for the classic studio now called Hammer - A John Gore Company. While it would be easy to compare this film to the classics from the past, it’s not really something I want to do.
I prefer to judge the film on its own merits. And it definitely has merits.
The locations, particularly the home of Doctor Jekyll, work extremely well. They bring you back to the past without leaving you there permanently. It’s a good mix of old and new.
The key performances from Eddie Izzard as Doctor Jekyll and Scott Chambers as Rob are the make or break aspect of the film. Eddie does a masterful job of portraying Doctor Jekyll and his alter ego. Every scene that she is in you can’t take your eyes off of her. And when she and Scott Chambers are in scenes together, the storyline just gets elevated. They worked extremely well together.
Overall, “Doctor Jekyll” is an entertaining entry into the Doctor Jekyll lore. The new Hammer - A John Gore Company is off to a great start!
