The new documentary film, ”Silver Screamers” may sound a little comedic when you read the premise. A short film in the horror genre that stars a senior citizen in the lead role. The director decides to also film a documentary about the making of the film as he hires other seniors to learn and ultimately perform in many behind the scenes roles to get the film realized.
The film is touching and I don’t mean the monster in the film touches everyone by killing them. The profiles of each senior that is hired to work on making the film sets the tone for something much bigger than the short film or the documentary.
Our senior population is an afterthought in my opinion. We don’t take care of them the way we should. We don’t acknowledge their gifts the way we should. As another senior told me many years ago, “we throw away our seniors”. At the time I didn’t really understand what she meant but I certainly do now that my own parents are seniors (and I’m not far behind as scary as that statement is).
“Silver Screamers” has a tremendous heart and there will be times when you may even tear up a bit. This is quality film making and its message deserves, and demands, to be heard.
Recommended.
