SEATTLE SYMPHONY The Ring In Concert October 30, 2026 Benaroya Hall Seattle, WA Review

THE RING IN CONCERT w/THE SEATTLE SYMPHONY

Conductor: Wesley Schulz
Seattle Symphony
Benaroya Hall

October 30, 2026 8pm Performance

(Seattle Symphony)

The Seattle Symphony under conductor Wesley Schulz performed a magnificent live score to the horror fan-favorite film ”The Ring” (2002) on Friday evening - just in time to end spooky season 2026.

This was the first horror film to be performed in the “in concert” series with the Seattle Symphony. Last year’s “Coraline” is arguably also a horror film but “The Ring” is most definitely a horror film, based on the Japanese film from 1998, “Ringu”.

One of the fun parts of this particular event was that the film was partially shot here in Seattle. This is a rarity these days due to cheaper locations, laws, and expenses elsewhere (such as Vancouver, BC). So it was a bit of an Easter egg hunt of spotting locations downtown, the ferry ride, and other locales.

The film itself is starting to get dated due to the technology that is a crucial part of the storyline (CRT TV’s, landline phones, answering machines, etc.). Naomi Watts still delivers a highly nuanced performance but even she can’t overcome the dated-ness by rushing over to delete a voice mail on her answering machine.  I won't spoil what any of this has to do with the film.

Having said that, there were many in attendance who had never seen the film. I myself hadn’t seen it in decades so much of it was new to me again.

The Seattle Symphony performed the minimal Hans Zimmer score to perfection. They are always on point with these events and Friday night was no different.

As I’ve said many times, if you haven’t attended one of these movie performances where the score is performed live you are truly missing out on an exceptional experience. It’s absolutely worth your time to attend a performance.

Highly recommended!
