Review: 8pm Final Dress Rehearsal Performance on May 14, 2026.
The new production from the Edmonds Driftwood Players brings the company back to the “who done it world” of Agatha Christie. A murder mystery from the earliest days of author Agatha Christie.
For those that possess minds that are great with deciphering clues as a story goes along, this play is for you. I, unfortunately, do not possess such a mind. That did not keep me from enjoying the production, however.
While the cast as a whole were strong, a few individuals really stood out to me.
Chris Ensweiler as Hercule Poirot, making his EDP debut, was absolutely fantastic as the iconic character. His mannerisms, speech, and ability to entertain both comedically and dramatically was a sight to behold. I hope this is just the start of Mr. Ensweiler’s return to the stage.
Duncan Thorvilson as Lieutenant Hasting provided the narration for the audience as well as his role in helping solve the crime. Mr. Thorvilson was precise with his dialogue and acted as the glue of sorts with the production. His performance was noteworthy for sure.
Seamus C. Smith as John Cavendish was also a perfect addition to the cast in his role. Having seen Mr. Smith perform before in another local production, I knew what he was capable of and he did not disappoint.
Again, for those that love murder mysteries, you’ll have a ball as the clues are laid out during the show. For those that have a harder time keeping up like myself, you will still be highly entertained by the performances and the final reveal of just who is the murderer.
“Agatha Christie’s The Mysterious Affair at Styles” is a strong production throughout and an entertaining way to spend your arts dollars.
