The new film, “Double Down South” is an interesting drama from writer/director Tom Schulman (“Dead Poets Society”).

Based in the dirty south, the film follows Diana (Lili Simmons) as she joins a house of pool tournaments. Under the guidance (if you can call it that) from Nick (Kim Coates), the two strive to hustle the best players out of their hard earned money.

The film is very much a drama with well written dialogue and solid performances from everyone in the cast. Accents stay in place and the pool action is entertaining. But, the film is a bit long. I think it could have been condensed down into something less than two hours. The ending is interesting and leaves the audience in discussion mode for sure.

Overall, “Double Down South” is a solid film - good but not great.
