Miss Bennet: Christmas At Pemberley

The holiday season is here and when I heard SecondStory Repertory was doing this wonderful play, I had to inquire about reviewing it.
I became a fan of another version some five years ago (having seen that show three times) so I was certainly looking forward to this interpretation on Thursday evening.
It did not disappoint.
For me the show rises or falls on the performances of Miss Bennet and Mr. de Bourgh. If they work well together, then the show will be a triumph. If they don’t, well, then not so much. In this case Sara Schweid and Josiah C. Miller worked incredibly well together. The nuances of the characters, their love of books, science and the like, and the awkward yet developing interest in one another came across in near perfect fashion.
The audience wants to see these characters get together by the end of the show. And the characters are not necessarily the easiest to like (they are designed that way). It just goes to show the talent and performances of Ms. Schweid and Mr. Miller could not be denied.
And let’s not forget about the strong cast of characters surrounding them. There was truly no weak link in the cast. None. They all had their moments to shine and shine they did.
The staging was just as memorable as the first show of the season (which I reviewed as well). I am thoroughly impressed with what the company does with their space. They utilize every inch of it to transport a room in Redmond Town Center into a completely different and dramatic world.
With all of the local theatre companies staging their holiday best productions, do not sleep on this show. It is a top notch production with a cast that brings every aspect of the Jane Austen world to brilliant holiday life.
