The new film, “Rose” made its North American premiere at the Lighthouse Film Festival earlier this month. Billed as a personal story from writer and director Niels Arden Oplev (“The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”), “Rose” most definitely is and so much more.

As always, I don’t go through plot points with my reviews but what I will say is that “Rose” tackles the story of a woman that is wrestling with mental health issues and how she sees the world.

Sofie Gråbøl plays Inger and delivers an Academy Award winning performance. Her skills as an actor are so off the chart in this film that it must be seen to be believed. From the first time her character enters the screen to the last, she absolutely disappears into the character of Inger.

The skillful direction of Mr. Oplev is also on display throughout the film. He tells the story in such a subtle yet direct way, there never feels like there's a moment of wasted time during the film. None.

“Rose” is a remarkable achievement in film.

Highly recommended!
