Greetings,

The 61st season for the Edmonds Driftwood Players kicked off Friday night with the musical, "A Gentleman's Guide To Love and Murder". Being the first show of the new season, the house was packed.

I was looking forward to starting the season as last year I came in a show or two into the season. Anyone that read my previous reviews would be happy to know this show brought many of the aspects together that I personally want to see in a strong production.

As usual, I prefer not to go too much into the plot. Let's just say this show has something for everyone.

Most of the actors are required to play different characters throughout the show. There is plenty of drama, intrigue, near slapstick style humor or perhaps British humor would be more accurate. Here's what stood out:

Everything.

The cast was strong, perhaps the strongest I've seen at a show here. And with this being a musical, the cast had to, not only perform different roles, but also they had to act, dance, and of course, sing.

The direction by Adam Othman was tight and visionary. It didn't surprise me to learn he directed last season's, "Peter and The Starcatcher". Both shows required a lot of attention to detail, to juggle the variety of moving pieces during the show, and Adam did so with ease.

The execution of the material was also top notch. Again, arguably the best I've seen at a performance here.

With every show I had seen previously here, there was a mish mash of talent, things that worked and didn't work, which in turn made for shows that were good, ok, or even not so good. This show finally got all the aspects together to create a fantastic production.

This quality of this show reminded me why the company has been around for 61 seasons. It also showed me what the company is capable of when the right pieces fall into place. If this is any indication of the season to come, the Edmonds Driftwood Players will be hitting home-runs out of the park every show.

Bravo!
