A New Interview Confirmed

This is a new one for me - the first interview of an artist based solely on a promo I've received.  Infestus from Germany - founder just agreed to step up to the Eclectic Arts table and talk about their forthcoming record ExIst!

And Now We Wait

With #1 and #2 done, it's kind of weird to be waiting around before I can get started on Issue #3.  There are a few things I could do, sure, but it seems premature right now.  I have one interview to transcribe for the newest issue and a review or two to do, but, that's about it.

Calm before the storm I suppose......but a welcome calm.  :)

And So It Goes

Eclectic Arts.  Period.  I'm moving away (a bit) from the zine thing and calling it a publication (which it is).

Eclectic Arts - a personal publication for a global audience.

Oh, btw, Issue #2 is done!

Time To Take The Stage . . .

So, the first issue is at the printers!  As long as I didn't screw things up for them - I should see the first copies some time next week.  Issue #2 is almost done as well.  That one won't get sent to print until I see the first issue - makes sense huh?

Considering in early November 2010, this was just a random idea I had - to now in March 2011 - this thing came together rather quickly.  Sure - there have been stumbling blocks but overall - I'm rather impressed with myself *lol*

Having been into underground fandom for so long definitely helped.  I had contacts, I had bands that (kind of) remembered me, etc.  If I had to start from scratch - damn - there's no way I would of been able to get all this done so fast.

So, for what it is, I'm happy with it.  I did the best I could with what I have.

Hopefully with future issues, I can get the zine to the level where I can afford to have it published in color - that is going to be critical in terms of showcasing visual arts in it.  Even with my own photography inside - many images I didn't use because of the black and white - ness of it all.  But if I have the option of color - whoa - watch out!

I'm looking forward to getting #3 together.  I have a much better idea of what I need to do to improve the zine - and #3 should reflect that.  Beyond that - I don't know.  It's too early to tell.  If a flood of interviews happen, then the content is taken care of.  If not, I can tell you this, I'm not going to be writing up research articles for the zine.  I know some zines have done that and have put alot of time into such things.  But, for me, I'd rather hear from the artists rather than something I write about them, ya now?  So, if the interviews take forever....or just stop.....then I'll have to make a decision about the future.

But, as they say, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Moments Away

Ahhh - the end of the race is near.  After many obstacles since the beginning of 2011, the first issue of E.A. is finally ready to head to the printers.  And the better part?  Issue #2 will be hot on the first issue's heals in the printing department.  #2 could be at the printer's as early as next week!

Issue #3 - now that one will take a little longer.  One interview is done and I'm waiting on another.  Actually, a few others.

I think once the first issues get out there, that's when things will take off in terms of submissions and other possibilities.

The good part is that when I've re-read the interviews thus far, I still really like them.  I'm immensely proud of the content of E.A.  The layout and printing need work and I know it - but with limited funds there's only so much I can do.  I would add in that my knowledge of laying out a zine is nil ...so that's created headaches along the way as well.

So where do we go from here?  Print #1...finish #2....print #2.....see if there's a demand to reprint either issue.  And at the same time, work on getting the content for #3 completed.  I'd love to get #3 out by the end of May if possible (or earlier).

The break down (not sure if I already blogged about this):

NO thanks to BlackMetal.com for accepting the interview months ago but never returning the damn thing.  Time wasters.  I guess asking about the 7"s they bootlegged (and crappy bootlegs at that) rubbed them the wrong way HA.

Those that have politely declined an interview:  Darvulia.  This I can respect as they at least got back to me and let me know they appreciated the support but they don't do inties.  Great band btw - check 'em out!
